Valhall by Peter Madsen, Hans Rancke-Madsen, and Henning Kure.
Speaking of comic book adaptations of the dick Loki!
What I didn’t learn about Norse mythology in school, I got from these Danish comics. Valhall was a series of fifteen comic books published in Denmark between 1979 and 2009. In 1986, an animated movie based on the comics was released.
I don’t know if they were ever released anywhere else than in Scandinavia, but I used to read these comics all the time as a kid and they really got me really interested in Norse mythology. Reading this made me want to know more, as the comics were mostly based on the actual mythology, though with a bit more “kid friendly” approach. The books handled various famous stories from the mythology (like Thor and Loki dressing up as a bride and bridesmaid to get Thor’s hammer back), the book kind of have two main characters, Tjalve and Roskva. Tjalve and Roskva are two young siblings who work as servants for Thor and his family
(Guess the Norse Gods have never heard of laws against child labour).I honestly can’t think of the Norse Gods without thinking about this series of comic books, they have a great style and amazing way of retelling these stories.
Thor was depicted as a hot-headed ass, who would often get in fights because of his temper, but was terrified of upsetting his wife, Sif.
Sif was depicted as a loving and caring mother, who wouldn’t take none of Thor’s bullshit and also, she was the protector of the family.
Odin, sadly I don’t remember much of how he was depicted in the series, but I think he was like the wise old Gandalf type, who constantly called you a fool, but secretly loved you behind your back? Sorry, my brain can’t locate the file right now.
Mostly I think I remember him looking like he was thinking “FML” throughout the stories where he was featured.
Loki was depicted as the typical prankster and the one who always ran away, rather than stay and fight. He was a bit of an goof in this series, as well as, you know, a bit of a dick.
I won’t bore you with all the Gods depictions in this series, but it was pretty good.
Also, know how I said this was a “kid friendly” sort of series?
This is from the issue where Loki tries to steal Freja’s necklace because it’s fabulous. Loki turns into a flea and sneaks into Freja’s bedroom at night, bounches on her ass to reach her neck and unhook her necklace.
You know, for kids!
